It can deliver 2 x 2.8W per channel to 4-ohm impedance speakers (@ 10% THD) and features an I2C control interface along with an Automatic Gain Control (AGC) system to prevent your audio from clipping or distorting.
If you don't want to use I2C for control, it starts with a default gain of 6dB and most music playback has AGC set. However, because it's quite powerful, we recommend using it with a microcontroller to configure. Settings are not stored on the chip, so you'll need to set any gain and AGC amplification each time you power the amplifier.
It has a D-Class controller that can operate from 2.7V to 5.5VDC, making it incredibly efficient due to its D-class nature (it's 89% efficient at 1.5 watts with an 8Ω speaker). This makes it perfect for portable and battery-powered projects. It has built-in thermal and overcurrent protection, but it's hard to tell if it's getting hot because it barely warms up. This board is a nice upgrade for basic LM386 amplifiers!
The amplifier's inputs pass through 1.0uF capacitors, so it's completely 'differential' - if you don't have differential outputs, just tie R and L to ground. The outputs are 'Bridge Tied' - that means they connect directly to the outputs, no ground reference, which lets you push the amplifier to almost half rail-to-rail. The output is a ~300KHz square wave PWM that is then 'averaged out' by the speaker coil - higher frequencies are not heard. All of the above means you can't connect the output into another amplifier, it's just for driving speakers.
It comes fully assembled and tested with 1.0uF input capacitors. We also include screw-terminal blocks to easily attach/detach speakers, and headers in case you want to plug it into a breadboard. Speakers are not included, use any 4 ohm or 8 ohm impedance speakers.
