This product features 16 ultra-bright smart LEDs arranged in a circular shape with a 1.75" (44.5 mm) outer diameter. The rings are "chainable," meaning you can connect the output pin of one to the input pin of another. Each LED is addressable since the driver chip is inside the LED itself. Each one has a ~18mA constant current driver, so the color will remain consistent even if the voltage fluctuates, and you don't need external current-limiting resistors in your design. Power everything with 5VDC (works from 4-7V) and you're ready to create some dazzling effects.
These rings use a special protocol that requires precise timing, so they require a real-time microcontroller such as AVR, Arduino, PIC, mbed, etc. They cannot be used with Linux-based microcomputers or interpreted microcontrollers like Netduino or Basic Stamp. They are designed for manual soldering, so they are compatible with AVR cores only, but others may have ported the driver code, so please search online. An 8MHz or faster processor is required.
It comes pre-assembled and tested with 16 individually addressable RGB LEDs in a single ring.
