There are 30 RGB LEDs per meter, and you can control the entire strip at once with any microcontroller and three transistors. Wired up with 9-12VDC power, you'll then ground the R/G/B pins to turn on the three colors. Use any NPN or N-channel MOSFET (the bigger the better, as they're more powerful) and PWM the inputs for color mixing.
Having a good 12V power supply is crucial to provide power.
We've gone ahead and gotten the weatherproof kind with a white background. There's a 3M adhesive strip on the back that should stick to most smooth surfaces. Great for decorating your bike, art project, costume, or party wear!
Note: These strips are weatherproof, so they will be more durable than non-coated strips, but they are not designed for long-term immersion in water, especially chlorinated water, or extended exposure to UV (e.g., sunlight). They are intended for indoor use or light outdoor use without direct sun/water exposure. This means you can't submerge them in a pool, lake, aquarium, etc. The serigraphy, pitch, and LED brightness may vary slightly from reel to reel. Strips are not returnable once the backing has been peeled off!
You can easily cut these materials with wire cutters, there are cut-lines every 10 cm (3 LEDs each) and the weatherproof casing can be trimmed with a hobby knife. Solder to the 0.1" copper pads and you're ready to go.
