Arduino Adafruit Assembled Data Logging Shield

Here is a handy Arduino shield: Many of us have been looking for a custom and well-designed data logging shield. We have worked hard to design an affordable yet versatile solution.

The latest version of this popular shield has all the features of the original and is "R3" compatible, so you can use it with almost any Arduino or compatible board. You can get it up and running in less than 15 minutes – it can save data to files on any FAT16 or FAT32 formatted SD card to be read by any drawing, spreadsheet, or data analysis program. The included Real-Time Clock (RTC) can be used to timestamp all your data with the current time, so you know exactly when events occurred!

Please note that this item does not come with an Arduino (you'll need one to use it with the shield), an SD card, or a button cell battery. The shield comes with all the components soldered and tested but does not have headers attached. You'll need some basic soldering skills to assemble it, but even with limited experience, you can put it together in less than 15 minutes.

  • The SD card interface works with cards formatted in FAT16 or FAT32. The 3.3V level shifter circuit prevents damage to your SD card.
  • The Real-Time Clock (RTC) keeps time running even when the Arduino is unplugged. Battery backup lasts for years.
  • Included libraries and sample code for both the SD card and RTC mean you can get started quickly.
  • Soldering connectors for prototyping with circuitry or sensors.
  • Built-in 3.3V regulator, which is both a reliable reference voltage and efficiently powers the power-hungry SD cards.

With this new version, you can use it with:

  • Arduino UNO or ATmega328 compatible - 4 analog channels with 10-bit resolution, 6 when RTC is not in use
  • Arduino Leonardo or ATmega32u4 compatible - 12 analog channels with 10-bit resolution
  • Arduino Mega R3 or ATmega2560 compatible - 16 analog inputs (10-bit)
  • Arduino Zero or ATSAMD21 compatible - 6 analog inputs (12-bit)
  • Arduino Due - 12 analog inputs (12-bit) Of course, you can record anything you want, including digital sensors with Arduino libraries, serial data, bit timing, and more.
