Notify me when its in stockAdafruit TPL5111 Low Power Timer Breakout is a standalone breakout designed for any low-power electronics project! It takes care of periodically enabling and disabling your electronics using a built-in timer that can vary between every 100 ms and up to two hours. Essentially, the TPL generates a high-level enable pin at an adjustable interval, set with a potentiometer or resistor, to power up your project. It then waits until it receives a signal from your project, indicating it can safely power down by setting the enable pin low. If it doesn't receive a signal within the set timeout period, it will reset the device, acting like a watchdog timer.
The key difference between TPL5111 and TPL5110 is that TPL5110 allows you to use a pin for enabling/disabling power, while TPL5111 lets you control it through the Enable pin. It's best to use TPL5110 for powering down the power input line when possible, or to place it between your power source and Vin.
Using it is simple. First, set your desired delay, but adjust the built-in trim pot: left for every 100 ms and right for every 2 hours. Then, connect VDD to your project's power supply (3-5V) and hook up your project's enable pin to the Enable pin. Finally, select a signal pin from your project to the Done pin. Make sure your project code or design sets the Done pin high when the task is completed. That's it!
While the TPL5111 is in operation (and the rest of your project's power is disconnected), the current draw is approximately 20uA (according to our Monsoon Power Meter).
If you need to manually activate the device, you can do so by pressing the built-in tactile switch (or you can connect your own switch to the Delay pin). Have you seen that? Your power issues are solved!
A TPL5111 chip comes fully assembled as a breakout board with all necessary components and a bit of header. A little light soldering is required to assemble it for use with a breadboard.
