Adafruit FT232H Breakout - General-Purpose USB to GPIO, SPI, I2C & Stemma QT

Make sure you can program an Arduino to communicate with these devices and your computer, but why should your computer be limited to only talking to these devices and sensors? Well, now your computer can communicate with devices using the Adafruit FT232H Breakout board!

What can the FT232H chip do? This chip from FTDI'nin adds a 'multi-protocol synchronous serial engine' to your computer, allowing it to speak many common protocols like SPI, I2C, serial UART, JTAG, and more. It even offers a handful of digital GPIO pins that you can read from and write to. You can use it to interface with things like flash LEDs, read switches or buttons, and more. The FT232H Breakout is like adding a Swiss Army knife for serial protocols to your computer.

This chip is powerful and useful when you want to quickly iterate and test a device that uses I2C, SPI, or simple general-purpose GPIO. You won't have to write software for a product you're just testing, so you don't have to deal with the "send data to an Arduino and have it send data back" approach when working with an electronic sensor, display, or component.

This breakout board features an FT232H chip and an EEPROM for built-in configuration. You can learn more about this chip from FTDI's page and check out their documentation on getting started. You can use Python to control the FT232H with Mac/Win/Linux and access hundreds of CircuitPython libraries and tutorials to get going.

NEW: As of February 12, 2020, we've completely refreshed this board! It now has a modern USB C connector (instead of micro USB), an I2C switch to easily connect D1 and D2 for I2C, a 3V power output pin for up to 500mA, and Stemma QT Connector for plug-and-play with any Stemma QT or Qwiic device, sensor, or display. This revision is fully backward compatible with the board size, mounting holes, and pinouts (the extra 3V/GND pins are in an otherwise unused location and don't affect the pinout and can be left unconnected).

You can download the EagleCAD PCB files and Fritzing object tutorial downloads from the product page.
