Round Semi-Circular Backlight LED - 50mm Diameter

Each LED is placed within a 2.2mm thick acrylic semi-circle. Acrylic is a special type of material that diffuses light very well, so even with just two white LEDs, it provides nearly uniform illumination. On the other flat side of the diffuser, there is a reflector, so you only get light from the top (otherwise, backlight unnecessarily loses 1/2 of its brightness).

You can use this 50mm diameter backlight just like an LED, drawing around 30mA current and producing light at around 3V, and you can create a beautiful shape that you can mask with vinyl or draw on with a marker. Gels can be used to change its color. We believe these will make great wearable products without the need for EL or inverters. They are much brighter than EL and consume less power. The only trade-off is that they are not flexible.
