Tinker Edge T is a single-board computer (SBC) specially designed for AI applications. It features a built-in machine learning (ML) accelerator, the Google Edge TPU, that accelerates processing, reduces power demands, and makes it easy to create smart applications for connected devices. With this integrated ML accelerator, Tinker Edge T can perform four tera operations per second (TOPS) using only 0.5 watts per computational unit. It is also optimized for TensorFlow Lite models, simplifying the compilation and execution of common ML models.
Most SBC motherboards provide only a 15-watt (5V 3A) power design, which can lead to device and system instability when multiple connected devices are used. Other SBCs have power designs that compromise the performance of I/O ports. Tinker Edge T, however, features a custom power design that provides up to 45 watts of power with a DC head power source, ensuring stable system operation and full I/O performance even with multiple connected devices. In addition, a custom power protection design automatically kicks in if the supplied current and voltage fluctuate significantly, effectively protecting the board and all connected devices.
Powered by a powerful and modern four-core ARM-based NXP i.MX 8M processor, Tinker Edge T offers a robust solution for applications that require graphics, computer vision, video, audio, and security. Tinker Edge T is equipped with 1 GB LPDDR4 memory, the fourth generation of low-power DDR DRAM technology, providing higher speeds and lower power consumption for enhanced system performance and efficiency. It also features built-in 8 GB eMMC storage and an SD 3.0 interface, significantly increasing data read and write speeds for the operating system, applications, and file storage.
Tinker Edge T includes an active cooler that helps improve heat dissipation, particularly under heavy workloads or in hot environmental conditions.
Tinker Edge T offers a rich I/O interface, including a MIPI-DSI connection for displays and touchscreens, two MIPI-CSI connections for compatible cameras that enable computer vision for applications like smart vending machines and interactive advertising. It is designed with meticulous attention to providing a superior experience for both first-time builders and experienced hobbyists. Additionally, Tinker Edge T features full-size HDMI, USB Type-A, USB Type-C, gigabit LAN, and integrated Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for internet and network connectivity. It also includes a mini PCI Express slot for 4G LTE expansion.
