Adafruit TPL5110 Low Power Timer Breakout

The Adafruit TPL5110 Low Power Timer Breakout is a standalone breakout board designed for use in any low-power electronics project. It will help you manage your project's power consumption by turning it on and off using a built-in timer that can be adjusted from every 100ms to once every two hours. Essentially, the TPL uses a periodical timer that can be adjusted with a potentiometer or resistor to periodically power up your project. It will then wait for a signal from your project to safely turn off power to the TPL. If the TPL doesn't receive a signal within the set timeout period, it will reset the device like a watchdog timer.

It's straightforward to use. First, adjust the built-in trim pot to set your desired delay: nearly all the way to the left for "every 100ms" and all the way to the right for "once every 2 hours." Then, connect VDD to your 3-5V power source and the power of your project to the Drive pin. Lastly, select a signal pin from your project to connect to the Done pin. Make sure your project's code or design sets the Done pin high when the task is completed. That's it!

While the TPL5110 is operational (but the rest of the project's power is off), the current draw is approximately 20uA (as measured with our Monson Power Meter).

If you ever want to manually turn the device on, you can do so by pressing the built-in tactile switch (or by connecting your own switch to the Delay pin). See? Your power issues are solved!

Although we've successfully used this breakout with the Huzzah ESP8266 Feather, some others have reported it didn't work for them. Therefore, usage with ESP8266 is not guaranteed.

A TPL5110 chip comes fully assembled on a PCB with all built-in components and some headers. A little light soldering is required to put it together for breadboard use.
