EL materials work on the principle of the phosphor-coated copper wire glowing when an alternating current (AC) is applied. EL stands for electroluminescent, which means it lights up with electricity. EL materials are produced in various shapes and sizes, such as wire and panels, and can be used in bright and beautiful lighting projects.
Since all EL materials operate with AC voltage, they require inverter circuits. There are battery-operated inverters for wearable projects as well as inverters that work with different power sources.
El Wire Strip LED 2.5m Yellow is a high-power EL wire model with a 2.6mm diameter and a turquoise color. It offers twice the brightness compared to standard 2.3mm EL wires. It has a 2.5mm female JST connector at the end for easy connection to inverters. It has a brightness of 150 cd/m2 at 1.5 kHz/90V. It draws approximately 10mA of current per meter. Its capacitance value is twice that of standard EL wires (11 nF/m).
